In the about three years now since I stopped using Twitter, I haven’t really seen any reason to go back to it. And of course the recent developments seem intended to make it as unusable as possible, effectively requiring going through only the specific channels desired by the head of it for whatever insane reasons. Essentially they’re going from having an API to practically not having one unless someone’s an equally wealthy type, essentially major businesses only. I feel they’re about one step away from outright paywalling access to the site, period, which I am pretty certain is the end goal.
I get the impression this whole thing was planned. Take an avenue of expression for the common person and obliterate it just because in a show of power in rich versus poor and all that. This would have more of an impact if other avenues to express about how much of an expletive beyond my realm of knowledge of expletives weren’t a thing, but they are. The question is who’s where, and also who cares. Mainly, in the realm of social media, what’s even the point now? From what I understand it’s numbers, get a lot of likes and followers and then somehow get money from that I guess. I was never in for that. I’m honestly just on whatever I’m on just to look at whatever. And not just the “whatever” the company is selling, typically the most popular stuff that I don’t understand either.
Long story short, someone convinced the extremely long muskrat to buy Twitter for a joke. I’m fairly sure the muskrat isn’t smart enough to pull this sort of thing off, that’s what the scientists in whatever owned companies are underpaid for. Whoever was the start of that interaction that kicked things off could very well have intended for that site to die off, or at least make an attempt at restricting avenues of expression for enemies of a certain group. Maybe it’s even to try to push another platform to take advantage of those needing to find an alternative to Twitter, but if that’s the case, I’ve yet to hear about a platform that would make sense, so either they haven’t unveiled it or they’re bad at advertising. Then again I am somewhat out of a number of loops.
For instance, apparently the Pokémon brand has one of those TikTok things and the Japanese account posted a weird meme video that said the word “motherfucking” or some version of it a dozen or more times. I’m guessing the language barrier was a thing here. I’ve seen a number of broken English products that swear profusely for seemingly no reason.
Back on topic, if this means the old account that’s pretty much run by an automated RSS-linked script that posts site updates won’t be posting anything anymore because the company that runs that thing paywalls Twitter use under some premium thing or removes it entirely, then so be it. I’ll still have the RSS feed on this site after all. You can put those into anything that reads RSS. However that seems to be going the way of Gopher in terms of built-in support so that might need a more specific program or web app thingy. But at least it probably won’t get horribly jumbled up in an terrible attempt to drive clicks and force desired-to-be-popular stuff on everyone. Unless someone wants that in a feed specifically. I’m not sure who other than advertisers.
