Humanity itself is the problem as usual.

People can take as many attempts to assassinate certain figureheads in government as they want, and even if one of those ends up successful by pure luck, given most would-be assassins seem to be complete idiots who don’t consider every potential setback or even at least the most likely ones, and are often inaccurate on top of that, what is that going to do to actually solve the problem? These issues run deeper than just one person, or even a handful of them.

In order to “solve” a faulty government in the usual way, it would take more the effect of a nuclear warhead seated in between all the major offices so that the resulting fireball vaporizes all of them in one go. On a tactical note, I’m not sure why governments just tend to keep all their appointed “important people” in one place anyway, even with designated survivor rules. It would be pretty satisfying, even with the collateral damage of lots of innocent lives and historical artifacts being swept away with the trash, not to mention the radiation making the place and surrounding areas uninhabitable for a while. That also leaves a power vacuum, one that both local and foreign powers would be keen to fill, and they’d all probably do a terrible job at filling it, through being even more incompetent or fascist, and then they’d need to be wiped out as well.

Essentially, if someone wants to use nukes to wipe out the world’s problems, they’d better go all in. I hear mutually-assured destruction is a great way to invoke a nuclear winter to help finish the job. Not that I’m saying someone should, of course, it just sounds enticing on paper. And I’d also like to see a lot of assholes suffer and die as well, like any good person, but maybe it doesn’t have to be through nukes specifically. Guns are also played out thanks to the systems in place making champions of mass shooters.

Where is the root of this problem then? Is it the inbred hicks who had a power fantasy of running the government so they decided to let a bunch of rich assholes into power, thus changing nothing, even in their favor, and even if their half-assed minds are programmed to agree with their statements which ultimately wouldn’t affect them anyway? I’d say that’s on the right track, but ultimately they’re more of a symptom than a problem itself, even as nice as it would be to murder one or more of these fools.

The long story short here is that humanity itself just has a tendency to move toward totalitarianism. They even started out that way, appointing leaders to make absolute rule, then revolting when things stop turning out in their favor, then putting someone else in the seat of power for that to eventually go poorly once again. Ultimately, people just would rather have someone else do things for them, including dictate how their life should go, therefore governments and religion as well exist for those reasons. These structures such as democracy and communism are only delaying the inevitable. While in theory they could bring about an era of peace, in the long scope of things they’re ultimately short-lived, and the only ruler a person deserves is themselves.

So, yes, I’m suggesting anarchy is the path to peace within the scope of humanity, to just keep to one’s self instead of hiring someone to make life a pain for everyone. And of course that’s just in theory. But if humanity can’t survive that without turning on itself and going extinct, then maybe there won’t be peace until there’s no humans left. Or perhaps a random one of these other countries will magically figure out how to get one of these other systems to work and live eternally in peace as they spread their message through the stars in the hopes that some other bit of supposedly sentient life manages to figure it out correctly as well. But that’s a long fucking shot. Next best chance is seeing if some kind of other life other than primates evolves to an advanced enough state to reach space, provided there’s any other life left depending on the method by which humanity goes extinct. Or perhaps that whole “AI” thing will pan out into a dominant lifeform of sorts where mechanized beings rule this corner of the galaxy. Maybe humanity should survive just long enough for that to establish itself, as I think that would be pretty cool. I would much rather die or be assimilated by a fully sentient killer robot than getting nuked by some asshole.
