It’s Fallout Day apparently, the arbitrary “May the 4th” or “Mar10” marketing day based on the day civilization ended in the Fallout lore, about 52 years from now, which I feel is a bit optimistic. That means it’s time for the second Kirby Air Riders Direct, of course. I was able to catch it right before work as usual.
Long story short, how cheap can I get a Switch 2? I’m glad I got my secondhand PS5 for a decent deal almost a year ago, as I’ve been playing stuff on and off there, even if a lot of that stuff ends up being free-to-play random things I don’t want to install on my PC or phone for whatever reason (largely for the sake of kernel-level anti-cheat garbage and so on). Like the new Skate game. It’s… a thing. It’s more fun when it bugs out, the skating is fine, but long story short it’s another free-to-play thing I don’t wanna spend money on, which is just about any of them. However the Switch 2 is too recent to be getting much of a legitimate discount even secondhand, and the chances of that even happening later on are apparently in jeopardy, provided society doesn’t completely collapse before then, which again putting that any further out than April of 2027 for example is being too optimistic, unless that’s just going to be a personal disaster, I’m not sure which yet. Maybe, surviving that, when laws no longer exist I’ll just steal a couple, one to be kept as a favor for redeem later. Or I’ll just blow what money I have and live in the moment, I don’t know. Go figure the games I do want on the system are the ones that aren’t bundled.
In any case, the new game includes a lot of returning stuff from the previous one, including the classic courses, Top Ride, and Wheelie Scooter, thankfully. And of course there’s an online mode now, which I’d be more interested in if it wasn’t reliant on Nintendo Switch Online both being paid and potentially flaky even when everyone’s on a hardline. They also have a feature called MY MACHINES, which involves a fair bit of customization, then whoever has online can drop them in a garage and invite people over so they can tell them THESE ARE MY MACHINES! MY MACHINES! MINE! MINE! MY MACHINES! MY MACHINES! They can even sell them all customized, which is done weirdly in that it doesn’t actually sell the actual machine, which is understandable, but anyone who puts it up also doesn’t get funds for it per sale. Apparently it’s just to see how high the price can get depending on popularity. Which means anyone who just wants to buy a customization is better off going for the cheaper weird stuff, maybe. Or just do the dang thing yourself.
Riders also get hats, aside from the ones they already got from copy abilities. This means Magolor can once again have a crown and it might be possible to add a bandana to the non-bandana Waddle Dee. So I guess I’ll go with Crowned Magolor riding a goth Wheelie Scooter on some days and maybe other times Waddle Dee wearing a bandana but not Bandana Waddle Dee driving the HENSHIN machine. I wonder what machine would be best to turn into the famous AE86. Or Herbie. I’m just pulling examples now from what I’d look up for designs on Forza Horizon games.
There’s even more going on, like many languages and variants for the announcers, some kind of road trip kinda thing and a story somewhere in there, and several Amiibo which will surely cost a fuckload of cash at this rate, but if they went so far as to make Magolor and a Wheelie Scooter I’d be very compelled. In summary, how does a console this new already have two games I’d get it for? The other being the Bananza.
Also for the Fallout Day stream, Bethesda did the expected and had updates on the show as well as the ongoing live service 76 thing, but they also announced an Anniversary Edition of Fallout 4, which I bet the modding community will love and totally not just be a repeat of the kind of thing that helped postpone the initial release of Fallout London. Plus it’s coming to Switch 2. If Cyberpunk 2077 can run on there, then I suppose that can too. Also they acknowledged New Vegas, since that’s also apparently going to be in the show, with another collector’s edition of the same version of the game that’s just been out for over a decade, fortunately for the modders, with a Securitron statue (done up as Victor, though I think the Yes Man fans are still hopeful or ready to handle it themselves) that will hopefully not endanger anyone’s health or suddenly be made of nylon fabric. Also they had animals in the office and the stream ended up breaking increasingly more toward the end with a lot of desync and repeat glitches. Classic Bethesda.
Also are people really expecting hearing about Fallout 5 sooner than Elder Scrolls 6, especially anything more than a random landscape shot with a title on it? They still have Starfield to figure out what to do with on top of that. Even if the timetable was flipped, I’m more interested to see what they do with the properties they came up with to see how they’re doing with game design, whenever that is, whether that’s before or after the fall of civilization.
